The main mission of the reestablished regiment was to guarantee the security of the President of the Republic and of the Government Palace. Weaponry had ceased to have a historic connection, with both the French and German dragoon regiments carrying lances during the early stages of World War I. The success of this new class of cavalry was such that another eight dragoon regiments were converted between 1768 and 1783.
